Have you heard of this yummy food? I hadn’t until a Salvadorian friend prepared it for our family along side Tilapia dinner!! So yummy!!
Well the other day another friend prepared Pupusa’s right in front of me, it looked so easy I just had to try to make it!!
Heres her making it! Thanks Xiomara! Sorry I try not to eat cheese so I only had a taste of yours, but today I prepared mine with refried beans and Cheese for the kiddos of course!! They loved it!!
Not bad for my first time!! Yummy!! The key I found out is in the water/ oil mixture I didn’t use to shape them at first… but they still came out yummy..
Here’s one with oil/water mixture to shape and place on griddle!!
Simply delicious!! Once you get the hang of making these they are pretty easy to make! You can change the fillings or pair with different foods like my friend Claribel did with her Tilapia!! Don’t want to make these, well next time you’re visiting a Latin American restaurant check to see if they’re on the menu!!
Basic Ingredients
Masa flour: can be picked up at your local grocery store, or Walmart or shipped directly to you from Amazon 🙂
To make these the first step is the mix masa and water till play dough consistency… make a saucer in your hands fill then fold until saucer shape in your hand. Pat with oil water mixture.. then place on grill, flip until done..
Cheese: I used Mozarella, but any Latin American cheese will work too.. I like to use a mix of cheddar and feta in my enchiladas that would work good here also 🙂
Other fillings: chicharrón mixture created by frying pork shoulder then mixed in a food processor with cheese onion, garlic and tomato until a spreadable consistency..
Pupusas are like Mexican quesadillas made with tortillas but made slightly different and with alittle more masa and oh so yummy!!
Thanks for following along In our food and life adventures!! I hope to share my recipe soon… Have a wonderful day, thanks for visiting!!
